Question
Chapter 42, Problem 4TYK
Summary Introduction
To review:
The disadvantages of an open circulatory system over a closed circulatory system.
Introduction:
In an open circulatory system, the hemolymph (a fluid connective tissue) is circulated in the body through a limited system of vessels. However, the hemolymph remains in direct contact with the tissues also, because it is not restricted to the vessels only. In the closed circulatory system, the blood continuously flows throughout the body via a series of blood vessels. The flow rate of the fluid (blood) is higher in this system as the blood is confined to the vessels and the pressure is generated by the heart.
