Answer to Problem 1Q

The reaction between two nucleons that could produce a π is,

  p+np+p+π

Explanation of Solution

Nucleons are the particles found in nucleus of an atom. Protons and the neutrons are the nucleons because they are in the nucleus of an atom. The proton is having positive charge and neutron does not have any charge. The proton and neutron are both baryon and fermions.

Write the expression for reaction between two nucleons.

    p+np+p+π

Here, p is protons and n is the neutron.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the reaction between two nucleons that could produce a π is p+np+p+π.

2H is a loosely bound isotope of hydrogen, called deuterium or heavy hydrogen. It is stable but relatively rare — it form only 0.015% of natural hydrogen. Note that deuterium has Z = N, which should tend to make it more tightly bound, but both are odd numbers.  Calculate BE/A, the binding energy per nucleon, for 2H in megaelecton volts per nucleon.
