Cancer cells are characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells, invasion, metastasis, and antiapoptosis. Cancer cells lack differentiation and maturation into specialized cells. Drugs, which are used to treat cancer is generally known as chemotherapeutic drugs or antineoplastic drugs. Chemotherapeutic drugs are generally used to prevent or suppress the growth of cancer. They are not effective for the treatment of all types of cancer. Most of the antineoplastic drugs cause adverse effects. The major adverse effects of chemotherapy are immune suppression, gastrointestinal distress, cardiovascular toxicities, fatigue, anemia, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and stomatitis.
