Answer to Problem 18R

An active solar system consumes sun light and stores it to produce some useful output. On the other side, a passive solar system only consumes the sun light and do not store it.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

Active solar system contains some machine, battery, storage, etc. that use solar energy and convert into some output. On the other side, a passive solar system is design, material and any man made natural structure which don not have any machinery system.

An active solar system collects the heat from the sun and converts into electricity which can be used to light a bulb or to rotate a turbine. This system stores the photon of the sunlight and use it produce electrons. The passive system is a structure, design or any non-machinery thing which cannot store photons of the sunlight. An example of passive system is solar panel. The passive system may use to optimize the temperature of a room or any place using sunlight. An example of passive system is window glass which is used in homes for ventilation purpose.

Conclusion:

Hence, an active solar system consumes sun light and stores it to produce some useful output. On the other side, a passive solar system only consumes the sun light and do not store it.
