Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

The thermal energy of a body is the sum of kinetic energy and potential energy of all the particles that make up that body. Thermodynamics is a branch of physics.

Thermal energy can be transferred in two different ways if the body is in actual contact with the heat source. It can either take place by conduction where heat is transferred due to the collision of molecules or by convection, heat can be transferred where the motion of particles takes place in a bulk based on their densities. Heat transfer can also take place if the bodies are not in actual contact with radiation where the thermal energy transfers in the form of waves in the absence of medium too.

Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that deals with the transfer of thermal energy from one body to another or from one place to another and is closely related to the concepts of heat energy, temperature and work done. It concludes from all its laws that for thermal energy to be transferred, some mechanical work needs to be done.

Conclusion:

Hence, thermal energy is of three types: conduction, convection and radiation and thermodynamics are related to thermal energy, temperature and work done.
