Concept explainers
To determine: Some of the environmental effects observed in the deforestation study at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (HBEF).
Introduction: In the field of ecology, there are several ecosystem studies that are going on to measure the processes of energy flow, nutrient cycle, and the effects of human-induced disturbances, and natural disturbances. There are some short-term and long-term experiments that are going on in the field of ecology. Some ecosystem studies like Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (HBEF) are conducted in a 3100-hectare area reserved in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. This is the long-term experimental study in the field of ecosystem. There are various experiments that are done at HBEF based on field studies. Those are salamander population observations and chemical and biological effects of acidification. There are some long-term experiments such as deforestation and ecosystem management that is also conducted.
