Concept Introduction:
According to the IUPAC rule, inorganic compounds are classified in several categories. Five common categories are binary ionic, ternary ionic, binary molecular, binary acid and ternary oxyacid. Binary ionic compound contains two elements a metal and a nonmetal. Ternary ionic compound contains at least one metal and rest of the nonmetal. Binary molecular compound contains two elements that are both nonmetal. A binary acid is an acid that contains hydrogen and one other nonmetal. A ternary oxyacid contains hydrogen, one nonmetal and one oxygen atom.
