Hospital Charges
Create an application that calculates the total cost of a hospital stay. The daily base charge is $350. The hospital also charges for medication, surgical fees, lab fees, and physical rehab. The application should accept the following input:
- The number of days spent in the hospital
- The amount of medication charges
- The amount of surgical charges
- The amount of lab fees
- The amount of physical rehabilitation charges
Create and use the following value-returning methods in the application:
- CalcStayCharges—Calculates and returns the base charges for the hospital stay. This is computed as $350 times the number of days in the hospital.
- CalcMiscCharges—Calculates and returns the total of the medication, surgical, lab, and physical rehabilitation charges.
- CalcTotalCharges—Calculates and returns the total charges.

- Account numbers sometimes contain a check digit that is the result of a mathematical calculation. The inclusion of the digit in an account number helps ascertain whether the number is a valid one. Write an application named CheckDigit that asks a user to enter a four-digit account number and determines whether it is a valid number. The number is valid if the fourth digit is the remainder when the number represented by the first three digits of the four-digit number is divided by 7. For example, 7770 is valid, because 0 is the remainder when 777 is divided by 7. The next problems rely on the generation of a random number. You can create a random number that is at least mi n but less than max using the following statements: Random ranNumberCenerator = new Random(); int randomNumber; randomNumber = ranNumberGenerator .Next(min, max);arrow_forwardFor each of the following exercises, you may choose to write a console-based or GUI application, or both. Write a program for The Carefree Resort named ResortPrices that prompts the user to enter the number of days for a resort stay. Then display the price per night and the total price. Nightly rates are $200 for one or two nights; $180 for three or four nights; $160 for five, six, or seven nights; and $145 for eight nights or more.arrow_forwardDanielle, Edward, and Francis are three salespeople at Holiday Homes. Write an application named HomeSales that prompts the user for a salesperson initial (D, E, or F). Either uppercase or lowercase initials are valid. While the user does not type Z, continue by prompting for the amount of a sale. Issue an error message for any invalid initials entered. Keep a running total of the amounts sold by each salesperson. After the user types Z or z for an initial, display each salespersons total, a grand total for all sales, and the name of the salesperson with the highest total.arrow_forward
- In Chapter 2, you created a program for Marshalls Murals that prompts a user for the number of interior and exterior murals scheduled to be painted during the next month. The program computes the expected revenue for each type of mural when interior murals cost $500 each and exterior murals cost $750 each. The application should display, by mural type, the number of murals ordered, the cost for each type, and a subtotal. The application also displays the total expected revenue and a statement that indicates whether more interior murals are scheduled than exterior ones. Now create an interactive GUI program named MarshallsRevenueGUI that performs all the same tasks.arrow_forwardIn Chapter 2, you created an interactive application named GreenvilleRevenue, and in Chapter 3 you created a GUI version of the application named GreenvilleRevenueGUI. The programs prompt a user for the number of contestants entered in this years and last years Greenville Idol competition, and then they display the revenue expected for this years competition if each contestant pays a $25 entrance fee. The programs also display a statement that compares the number of contestants each year. Now, replace that statement with one of the following messages: If the competition has more than twice as many contestants as last year, display The competition is more than twice as big this year! If the competition is bigger than last years but not more than twice as big, display The competition is bigger than ever! If the competition is smaller than last years, display, A tighter race this year! Come out and cast your vote!arrow_forwardThe Donut Shoppe sells four varieties of doughnuts: Glazed (1.05), Sugar (1.05), Chocolate (1.25), and Filled (1.50). It also sells regular coffee (1.50) and cappuccino (2.75). The store manager wants you to create an application that displays a customers subtotal, 6% sales tax, and total due. Create a Windows Forms application. Use the following names for the project and solution, respectively: Donut Project and Donut Solution. Save the application in the VB2017\Chap06 folder. Create the interface shown in Figure 6-57. When coding the application, use one independent Sub procedure to determine the subtotal, which is the total cost without the sales tax. Use a function to determine the sales tax. Use an event-handling Sub procedure to clear the output. Save the solution and then start and test the application.arrow_forward
- In this exercise, you modify the Grade Calculator application from this chapter’s Apply lesson. Use Windows to make a copy of the Grade Solution folder. Rename the copy Grade Solution-Intermediate. Open the Grade Solution.sln file contained in the Grade Solution-Intermediate folder. Open the CourseGrade.vb file. The DetermineGrade method should accept an integer that represents the total number of points that can be earned in the course. (Currently, the total number of points is 200: 100 points per test.) For an A grade, the student must earn at least 90% of the total points. For a B, C, and D grade, the student must earn at least 80%, 70%, and 60%, respectively. If the student earns less than 60% of the total points, the grade is F. Make the appropriate modifications to the DetermineGrade method and then save the solution. Unlock the controls on the form. Add a label control and a text box to the form. Change the label control’s Text property to “&Maximum points:” (without the quotation marks). Change the text box’s name to txtMax. Lock the controls and then reset the tab order. Open the form’s Code Editor window. The txtMax control should accept only numbers and the Backspace key. Code the appropriate procedure. The grade should be cleared when the user makes a change to the contents of the txtMax control. Code the appropriate procedure. Modify the frmMain_Load procedure so that each list box displays numbers from 0 through 200. Locate the btnDisplay_Click procedure. If the txtMax control does not contain a value, display an appropriate message. The maximum number allowed in the txtMax control should be 400; if the control contains a number that is more than 400, display an appropriate message. The statement that calculates the grade should pass the maximum number of points to the studentGrade object’s DetermineGrade method. Make the necessary modifications to the procedure. Save the solution and then start and test the application.arrow_forwardRetail Price Calculator Create an application that lets the user enter an item's wholesale cost and its markup percentage. It should then display the items retail price. For example: If an item's wholesale cost is $5.00 and its markup percentage is 100 percent, then the item's retail price is $10. If an item's wholesale cost is $5.00 and its markup percentage is 50 percent, then the item's retail price is $7.50. The program should have a method named CalculateRetail that receives the wholesale cost and the markup percentage as arguments and returns the retail price of the item. In addition, there should be the name of the Wholesale Company displayed (be creative). If the cost is over $500, display a $20 discount on the retail price. For example: If an item's wholesale cost is $600.00 and its markup percentage is 100 percent, then the item's retail price is $1,180. ( Markup = $600 * 100% = 600 Retail Price = $600 + $600 - $20 (wholesale cost + markup - discount)arrow_forward(In Java) The SalesCenter application stores information about three employees. There is one manager (Diego Martin, salary $55,000), and two associates (Kylie Walter earning $18.50 per hour and Michael Rose earning $16.75 per hour). SalesCenter should be able to display the name and title for a specified employee. Additionally, the SalesCenter application should calculate and display the pay for a specified employee based on the pay argument entered by the user. The pay argument should correlate to hours worked if the pay for an associate is to be calculated. The pay argument for a manager should correlate to the number of weeks the manager is to be paid for. The SalesCenter interface should provide a menu of options. Depending on the option selected, additional input may be needed. Create client code that will generate the following SalesCenter output sketch: Employee/Pay/Quit Enter choice: E Enter employee number(1, 2, or 3): 2 Kylie Walter, associate Employee\Pay\Quit Enter…arrow_forward
- Name Formatter Create an application that lets the user enter the following pieces of data: • The user’s first name • The user’s middle name • The user’s last name • The user’s preferred title (Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., etc.) Assume the user has entered the following data: • First name: Kelly • Middle name: Jane • Last name: Smith • Title: Ms. The application should have buttons that display the user’s name formatted in the following ways: Ms. Kelly Jane Smith Kelly Jane Smith Kelly Smith Smith, Kelly Jane, Ms. Smith, Kelly Jane Smith, Kellyarrow_forwardProperty Tax If you own real estate in a particular county, the property tax that you owe each year is calculated as 64 cents per $100 of the property’s value. For example, if the property’s value is $10,000, then the property tax is calculated as follows: Tax = $10,000 ÷ 100 × 0.64 Create an application that allows the user to enter a property’s value and displays the sales tax on that property.arrow_forwardAssume that a gallon of paint covers about 350 square feet of wall space. Create an application with a main() method that prompts the user for the length, width, and height of a rectangular room. Pass these three values to a method that does the following: Calculates the wall area for a room Passes the calculated wall area to another method that calculates and returns the number of gallons of paint needed Displays the number of gallons needed Computes the price based on a paint price of $32 per gallon, assuming that the painter can buy any fraction of a gallon of paint at the same price as a whole gallon Returns the price to the main() method The main() method displays the final price. For example: You will need 2.0 gallons The price to paint the room is $64.0 import java.util.Scanner; public class PaintCalculator { public static void main (String args[]) { // Write your code here } public static double computeArea(double length, double width, double height)…arrow_forward
