Concept Introduction:
Every atom consists of a nucleus, having protons and neutrons in it, and electrons revolving around the nucleus in their particular shells. These shells consist of subshells or orbitals in which an electron can be found.
Valence electrons are the electrons that reside in the outer most shell surrounding an atomic nucleus and participates in bond formation.
The Roman numeral group number for the group in the periodic table represents the number of the valence electron except for helium.
