Interpretation:
The difference and the similarity between the electronic configuration of cation and neutral atom are to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Every atom consists of a nucleus having protons and neutrons in it. Electrons revolve around the nucleus in their particular shells. Future shells consist of subshells or orbitals in which an electron can be found.
The electronic configuration of an ion differs from that of the electronic configuration of a neutral atom as ions consist of charge that has to be adjusted with a number of valence electrons. Cations have fewer electrons than a neutral atom, while anions have more electrons than a neutral atom.
