The sacrum is a single body plate that is formed by the fusion of five sacral vertebrae (S1-S5). This fusion starts to begin around 16 years of age and completely gets fused by 26 years of age. The sacrum protects the pelvic cavity organs by forming a wall at the posterior of the pelvic cavity.
