Concept Introduction:
The process through which a new substance is formed by the combination of two or more than two elements is termed as chemical reaction. In other words, a new substance is formed by the two or more substances. Chemical reaction involves the process of bond breaking and bond formation in the given elements or compound.
Answer to Problem 1RQ
The evidence for the chemical reaction is occurred are given as follows:
- Baking of a cake
- Corroding of metals
- Digestion of food
- Color change
Explanation of Solution
Whenever an apple is cut into two halves and left in the air for some time, the apple become reddish brown in color due to the reaction of iron present in the apple with the oxygen present in the atmosphere. Thus, the color change takes place due to oxidation of iron. This is an example showing that a chemical reaction takes place.
The chemical reaction of an oxalic acid with sodium bicarbonate solution is an evidence for the chemical reaction that takes place during baking of cake, as the reaction between oxalic acid with sodium bicarbonate solution produces brisk effervescence due to evolution of carbon dioxide gas.
