Explanation of Solution

Processes:

Processes contain sequence of interconnected activities that produces result by converting inputs into outputs.

  • Activity is a sub-part of a process.
  • Activities in processes include getting inputs, manipulating and producing corresponding output, which are interrelated to one another.
  • Activities can be done either by human or by computer systems.

Information systems are available at three different levels. They are workgroup, enterprise, inter-enterprise.

Process quality:

Quality of the process is more important in order to make an organization a successful one.

Dimensions of process quality:

Process quality contains two important dimensions. They are:

  • Process efficiency
  • Process effectiveness

Process Efficiency:

The efficiency of the process can be determined by measuring the ratio of output process and input process. The higher the value, the more efficient the process is.

Example:

Booking flight tickets:

In flight ticket booking system, the option should be available to cancel the tickets or to change the destination place and so on, if the user wants to perform those operations. Then, it is said to be process efficiency.

Process effectiveness:

The effectiveness of the process can be determined by measuring how well a process attains the organizational strategy.

Example:

Booking flight tickets:

After cancellation of the tickets, the company should be able to transfer the amount to the user as soon as possible. If this happens then, the booking system is more effective. If the amount is transferred after a week then, the system is said to be ineffective.

Improve process quality by organizations:

An organization can improve the quality of the process by following any one strategy among in three ways. They are:

  • By changing the process structure
  • By changing the process resources
  • By changing both the process structure and process resources.

By changing the process structure:

  • The structure of the process can be altered by completely reorganizing the process.

Example:

In booking flights, the information about the person can be validated after checking the availability of seats for the entered flight name, and time and place...
