Information Silo:

Information silo is nothing but a condition that occurs when the information systems isolates data. In other words, the management of information system is unable to freely connect with other managements.

Existence of Silos:

Silos come into existence when the information systems isolate data. For example: consider inventory department, here, the sales registry, client’s information, account balance, etc. are maintained by separate workgroups. Such type of maintaining records are common, but over time, the presence of these separate records may result in information silos, which will cause various problems.

Problems of silos:

In the above example, the presence of separate records may result in information silos which cause various problems. Here, the problems occur between retail departments which stores information about stock details, the service department which stores data about the types of services they provide and client details, and the accounting department.

Some of the major problems caused by information silos at workgroup level are as follows:
