Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The transition- state structures involved in the reaction of HBr with 1-pentene is to be drawn. Whether each structure resembles reactant or product also is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
The transition state will have a structure in which the bonds of the reactants involved in the reaction are in the process of breaking while that in the products are in the process of getting formed. Its structure will resemble the products in an endergonic reaction and reactants in an exergonic reaction.
To sketch:
The transition- state structures involved in the reaction of HBr with 1-pentene. Further to state whether the structures of the transition states resemble the reactant or product.

If axial OH groups are generally more reactive than their equatorial isomers, which do you think reacts faster, the cis isomer of 2-tert-butylcyclohexanol or the trans isomer? Explain.arrow_forward
