Difference between non-polar and polar molecule needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Polar molecules consist of permanent dipoles. Some parts of a polar molecule are always positive and some parts of the molecule are always negative.
Answer to Problem 114A
Polar molecule has high electron density whereas non-polar molecule has low electron density.
Explanation of Solution
Polar molecules have uneven electron density and they have dipole with partially charged end. Polar molecules are attracted by electric field but non polar molecules are not attracted by electric field. Polar molecules are soluble in polar solvent but non-polar molecules are not soluble in polar solvents.
Charge distribution of non-polar molecule is symmetrically balanced. But in case of polar molecule, charge distribution is unequal.
