Interpretation:
Whether the given molecules are polar or nonpolar is to be predicted.
Concept Introduction:
The number of bonded atom and unshared electron pairs determines the parent structure of molecules or ions.
Parent structures help predict the shape of molecules.
In a polar covalent bond, a pair of electrons are shared unequally between two bonded atoms. This leads to the formation of partial charges.
Using the value of electronegativity, it can be decided if a molecule is polar or not.
If the electronegativity values of the bonded atoms are different then the bond is polar.
