Answer to Problem 1P
The two properties of enzymes that make them especially useful catalysts are specificity of substrate and enhancement of the rate of reaction.
Explanation of Solution
The two main properties of enzymes due to which they work as the catalysts are given as follows.
- Enzymes being the catalysts increase the rate of reaction.
- Enzymes being the catalysts help in predicting the substrate specificity.
The reactant on which the enzyme catalyst acts is called substrate. The substrate is the reactant in the enzyme catalyzed reaction. Enzymes show different types of selectivity for different substrates. The active site of the enzyme determines the enzyme specificity.

- What biochemical function do these Omega-3 fats play? Much cheaper alternative sources of omega-3 fats include fats from some seeds and nuts (most often from flax seed in consumer products), but the allure of fish oil sources maintains these products' popularity despite much higher prices.
