Question
Chapter 8, Problem 8.25P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
A reasonable mechanism for the reaction given in Your Turn 8.17 is to be given.
Concept introduction:
Intramolecular proton transfer reactions are the ones in which a proton at one site with a molecular species is added at another site within the same species. Intramolecular proton transfer reactions are unreasonable because the solvent molecule interferes in the reaction. Solvent molecules, which are sufficiently acidic or basic, invariably participate in the proton transfer reaction from one site to another in a particular species via solvent-mediated proton transfer reactions. Water is the solvent that can behave as an acid as well as a base.
