Two steel plates having yield point stress of 350 N/mm2 are joined together by double fillet welds of 10 mm thick as shown in figure. The weldment is from the same parent plate material. If the weld has to be replaced by 3 bolts of the same material, one each at A and B and one at mid-way between C and D, design the bolts. Take factor of safety as 2 for the bolts
The figure shows a solid 2-inch diameter roller that is attached to the wall by means of a permanent clamping. Specify the weld size for the case where the maximum allowable shear stress is 18 kpsi.
