Chapter 9, Problem 9.9E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The wavenumber of given light in units of m1 and cm1 is to be expressed.

Concept introduction:

Wavelength is a measure of the distance between two adjacent crests or toughs. The wavelength of light is inversely proportional to the energy and frequency of the light. Wavenumber is mathematically equal to the inverse of wavelength. The relation between wavelength and wavenumber is represented as,

ν¯=1λ

Where,

λ represents the wavelength of the light.

ν¯ represents the wavenumber of the light.

Which of the three vibrations of an AB2 molecule are infrared or Raman active when it is (i) angular, (ii) linear?
The rotational Raman spectrum of 35Cl2 shows a series of Stokes lines separated by 0.9752 cm−1 and a similar series of anti-Stokes lines. Calculate the bond length of the molecule.
If the force constant of the C=N bond is 1.0 X103 N/m, calculate the vibrational frequency and wavenumber of the bond.
