The phage DNA containing the restriction site evades the restriction-modification screening system of its host.
Introduction:
A system present in cells to distinguish between self DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and foreign DNA is the restriction-modification system. It involves cleaving of foreign DNA at specific restriction sites and methylation of self DNA. The bacteria produce certain specialized enzymes called restriction endonucleases to identify as well as cleave the DNA at specific sites.
