Concept Introduction:

Amino group is a very active group.  It is a strong activator when present on the aromatic ring.  In order to reduce the activation, the amino group is acylated using any acid chloride.  Acylated amino group is a moderate activator.  When the amino group is acylated, the para position undergoes reaction without any other side reactions.  Once when the required group is installed in the para position, the acyl group is removed from the amine by treatment with acid.
