The consumer decision process usually involves 5 steps. Problem recognition, information search, evaluation of alternatives, purchase decision and post purchase evaluation. Problem recognition is realizing there is a need. For example, needing directions to a restaurant. Information search is the process of gathering information to inform the purchasing decision. Evaluation of alternatives is asking questions about available options. Purchase decision is when buying or deciding the actual item. Post purchase evaluation is reviewing the product and the overall customer satisfaction with the purchase. When creating a marketing strategy for the new Nike line for people that do not identify as male
or female, I will use the consumer decision process to identify how the consumer could encounter the product, what information could be beneficial to persuade the consumer to purchase the product. This could also help to identify pain points the consumers encounter with alternative products that we could make better with our product. By knowing the paths these consumers take when buying products allows to meet them where they are naturally. This will help make our product line appealing to them.
