Chapter 10, Problem 49E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The molecule that has highest bond order, highest bond energy and shortest bond length is to be stated.

Concept introduction:
The molecular orbital theory based upon the molecular energy diagram that is the representation of the energy levels in a molecule. Such representation plays a very important role in the chemical bonding of the atoms within the molecule. Electrons, filled in MO diagram follow certain rules.

Bond order of any molecule is calculated with the help of MO diagram. Bond energy is defined as the required amount of energy to break the bond. Higher bond order infers that the atoms are closely spaced. Therefore, the bond length is short for such molecules.

The molecule with highest bond order will be the highest bond energy and shortest bond length.

To determine:
The molecule that has highest bond order, highest bond energy and shortest bond length.
