Given:

The speed of sound in seawater, v= 1500 m/s and the distance is, λ= 2400 m .

Formula used:

The expression for time of a pulse to return is,

t=2λ/v   ..... (1)

Here, λ is the wavelength of the note, v is the velocity of sound, f is the frequency and t is the time.

For a sonar pulse to return it has to travel twice the distance.

Calculation:

Substitute 1500 m/s for v and 2400 m for λin equation (1),

t=2×24001500t=3.2 s

Conclusion:

Hence, the required time is 3.2s .
