Question
Chapter 11, Problem 46QP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The process to prepare a supersaturated solution of ammonium chloride is to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
Solubility is the property of a substance in its solid or liquid or gaseous state called solute to dissolve in a liquid (also in solid or gas) called the solvent. A solute dissolved in a solvent gives a solution. The amount of solute dissolved in a solvent depends on the structure, temperature and pressure of the solute and attractive force between solute and solvent. A solution can be defined as supersaturated solution if it contains more than the maximum amount of dissolved solute in a solvent at a certain temperature.

- Every pure substance has a definite and fixed set of physical and chemical properties. A solution is prepared by dissolving one pure substance in another. Is it reasonable to expect that the solution will also have a definite and fixed set of properties that are different from the properties of either component? Explain your answer.arrow_forwardUse the term soluble, insoluble, or immiscible to describe the behavior of the following pairs of substances when they are shaken together: a.25mL of cooking oil and 25mL of vinegar the resulting mixture is cloudy and gradually separates into two layers. b.25mL of water and 10mL of rubbing alcohol the resulting mixture is clear and colorless. c.25mL of chloroform and 1g of roofing tar the resulting mixture is clear but dark brown in color.arrow_forward
