In your own words, describe how genetic diversity makes a population resilient to environmental change.

Summary Introduction

To determine: The way genetic diversity makes a population resilient to environmental change.

Concept introduction:

Genetic diversity is the measure of the complete number of the genetic characteristics present in the genetic makeup of an organism. It provides an excellent way to organisms and their populations to survive and adapt to the varying environments. This altered survival pattern in organisms are observed because they acquire deviation in the alleles from their parents that exactly suit the varied environments. This adaptation provides them a chance to survive and reproduce more generations in unsuitable conditions as they learn to deal with it.

Explanation of Solution

Species survival and their reproduction are highly influenced by genetic diversity. When there is a sudden change in a habitat, the population must possess the ability to adapt to that particular change. Only then will it be able to survive. This ability will determine their capability of handling adverse situations. The more genetic diversity a population has, the more it will adapt...
