To review:
On the basis of the data for the genotype, the types of gametes formed and their proportion, for the following pairs:
a. AABB
b. AaBB
c. Aabb
d. AaBb
One gene has the alleles A and a whereas another gene has the alleles B and b. A and B represent the dominant alleles while a and b represent the recessive alleles.
Introduction:
When a homozygous allelic pair divides, it forms the same genes with both coding either for dominant genes or for recessive genes. When a heterozygous allelic pair divides, it forms two genes that code for dominant genes and recessive genes. In the case of independent assortment, each characteristic separate into gametes independently when there are two or more characteristics to be inherited.

- If an organism has two different alleles (call the alleles a andb) of a gene,a. its phenotype will be the same as an organism with twoidentical alleles of this gene.b. all of its gametes will contain both the a allele and theb allele.c. it is homozygous for that gene.d. it is heterozygous for that gene.arrow_forwardCystic fibrosis is a genetic disease caused by a recessive allele. Two parents without the disease have a child with the disease, indicating they are both heterozygotes. Assuming that the child did not have a mutation giving it the disease, what is the probability that a second child of the same parents would have the disease? Group of answer choices a. 1 b. 0.25 c. 0 d. 0.5arrow_forwardStraight hair is dominant to curly. However, heterozygotes of this gene have wavy hair. If a mother with wavy hair mates with a father with straight hair, what would be the genotype ratio of the possible offspring? A) 2:2:2 B) 0:2:2 C) 2:2:0 D) 2:0:2arrow_forward
- Which of the following is false, regarding the law of segregation? A. It states that each of two alleles for a given trait segregate into different gametes. B. It can be explained by the segregation of sister chromatids during mitosis. C. It can account for the 3:1 ratio seen in the F2 generation of Mendel's crosses. D. It can be used to predict the likelihood of transmission of certain genetic diseases within families.arrow_forwardWhich of the following CANNOT be true about the inheriteance the trait depicted in the pedigree diagram below? - Why is there no trait (letter) on the y chromosome for males in this pedigree? A. Because the trait is X-linked (on the X chromosome) B. Because Ms. Premo made a mistake C. Because we never write anything on the y chromosomearrow_forwardIn cats, long hair is recessive to short hair. A short-haired male is mated to a long-haired female. a) What are all possible genotypes of these two cats? b) What alleles will the gametes of each of these cats contain in their chromosomes?c) What will the kittens from all possible crosses between these two cats look like?d) Two cats are mated. One of the parent cats is long-haired. The litter which results contains two short-haired and three long-haired kittens. What length fur does the second parent have, and what is its genotype?Cats also have a locus (gene) for a character called agouti. In cats with agouti fur, pigment is unevenly distributed (see Fig. 1). The agouti allele is dominant to the allele for regular fur. A male cat who long haired and is heterozygous for agouti fur is crossed with a female who has regular, non-agouti fur and is homozygous for short fur. a) What are the genotypes of these cats? b) What are all of the possible allelic combinations in the gametes from each…arrow_forwardHow can the order of three linked genes (A, B, and C) on the same chromosome be determined?
