Chapter 12, Problem 6TYK
Summary Introduction

To analyze:

The phenotypes and their phenotypic ratios of F1 individuals (true-breeding varieties)

if allowed to self–fertilize according to the data given.

1. GG and Gg produce green pods while gg produces yellow pods.

2. LeLe and LEle produce tall plants while lele produces dwarf plants.

3. RR and Rr produce round seeds while rr produces wrinkled seeds.

Introduction:

The phenotype is a set of characteristics that can be observed from outside and are the results of genomic level interaction with the environment. True-breeding varieties are the varieties that have purely homozygous conditions of all alleles. The homozygous condition can be defined in an organism as when all types of alleles present for a character are same, such as all dominant or all recessive alleles.

Assume that smooth seed coats are dominant over rough seed coat. If two pea plants that are both Heterozygous for seed coats are crossed, what do you expect in the offspring (the f1 generation)? Specifically, what genotypes, what phenotypes, and in what ratios? (Use S for the smooth seed coat and s for the rough seed coat.) (Again, it is helpful to write out all the possible genotypes and give the phenotype for each genotype before answering the specific question.) Be careful in writing capital S and lower case.
In a dihybrid cross, a true breeding short white flowered plant is crossed with a non-true breeding tall purple flowered plant. Both tall and purple are dominant traits. What are the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring generation and what are the ratios of each?
: In poultry, the genotype-phenotype relationships for comb shape are R/– P/–, walnut; R/–p/p, rose, r/r P/–, pea; and r/r p/p, single. What will be the comb characters of the offspring ofthe following crosses?a) A walnut crossed with a single produces offspring that are walnut, rose, pea, and single.b) A rose crossed with a walnut produces offspring that are walnut, rose, pea, and single.c) A rose crossed with a pea produces five walnut and six rose offspring.d) A walnut crossed with a walnut produces one rose, two walnut, and one singleoffspring
