Explanation of Solution
Given information :
Adopting a cat or dog.
Two events can be mutually exclusive if there is no common outcome of the both events. Whereas if there is any common outcome then the events becomes not mutually exclusive events.
Cat can never be a dog. Hence these events cannot happen at same time and does not share anything common.
Therefore they are mutually exclusive.
