Interpretation:

The location of every nodal plane perpendicular to the bond axes in each MO is to be indicated in figure 14-5.

Nodes are indicated by vertical dashes lines. For a linear system of conjugated p orbitals, all nodal planes in a resulting π MO must be positioned symmetrically about the center of that set of p orbitals.

The lowest-energy π MO, called π1, has no nodal planes.
