The diamond blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare inherited disorder that affects the bone marrow and red blood cells. The DBA causes bone cancer, bone marrow failure, leukemia, abnormal cell types in bone marrow, and birth defects. There are 11 genes that encode for ribosomal proteins, any mutations in any one of the 11 genes can cause DBA.
