The transportation of oxygen in the body is one of the main functions of the blood. Red blood cells are involved in the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. Red blood cells have a special pigment termed as the hemoglobin which has a tendency to bind oxygen molecules. One hemoglobin can bind four oxygen molecules, and this association is termed as the oxyhemoglobin.
