Chapter 17, Problem 11CYU
Summary Introduction
To review:
The structure, apart from ovaries, that produces estrogen and progesterone.
Introduction:
The main source of the steroid sex hormone is the testes as well as ovaries. Progesterone is produced by follicle cells. Androgens are secreted in the ovary and are converted into estrogen. Progesterone, in pregnancy, is responsible for preparing the uterus. The reproductive organs are maintained by estrogen.

- Winston(she) is the pilot of a miniature spaceship from the planet snot-gurgle. The snort-gurglians are interested in human reproductive and endocrine function, and so the send their ace pilot Winston to investigate. Upon arriving on the planet earth, Winton enters the bloodstream of a male human being and heads for the testes. Once there, she starts sampling to figure out how the testes are involved in controlling testosterone levels. Save Winston some time, and explain to her how we control testosterone levels….a diagram would sure help. On planet snot-gurgle, the fuel used to propel the spaceship gives off a waste product that is identical to the human aromatase (an enzyme that coverts androgens like testosterone to estrogens) Despite the addition of aromatase to the blood of the human – and thus the presence of estrogens, Winston is unable to detect changes in cells behaviors for about 12 hours…..explain why it takes cells so long to respond to estrogens.
