Electrolysis:
The technique of passing direct electric current through ionic substance either in molten sate or aqueous state thereby producing chemical reactions at the electrodes and separation of materials. The main components of electrolysis comprises of an electrolyte, a direct current electric supply and two electrodes. Interchange of atoms and ions by either removal or addition of electrons from the external circuit is the key process of electrolysis. The formed products are often in different physical sate from the electrolyte and can be removed by some physical process.
