Question
Chapter 17, Problem 6RQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The following:
1. The reason behind the more problematic definition of species in bacteria and Archaea as compared to the eukaryotes.
2. The present basis to define the prokaryotic species.
Introduction:
The tree of life has three domains, namely Archaea, bacteria, and eukarya. This tree of life is based on the SSU rRNA (small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid) analysis which was proposed by Carl Woese. The domains are represented above the kingdoms in this classification system. It identifies the domain Archaea to be more closely related to Eukaryotes than Prokaryotes.
