The meaning of half cell reaction
Concept introduction:
Standard electrode potential is a measure of tendency of a chemical species to be reduced at an electrode at standard conditions. Standard conditions are ionic species should be present at unit activity (1 M) and gases should be at 1 bar. Reduction potential of H+ to H2 is arbitrarily considered to be zero. Standard electrode potential of a half cell reaction is measured using a reference electrode like hydrogen electrode. Higher the standard electrode potential of a chemical species, higher will be its tendency to be reduced.
