Answer to Problem 1RQ

The combination of two or more substances without the change in properties defines the material as a mixture.

Explanation of Solution

When two or more substances combine and mix they form a mixture. The substances in a mixture retain their individual properties in a mixture.

When the material consists of two or more than two substances, then it is identified as a mixture. It can consist two or more elements, compounds, or both. As, the properties of individual components do not change, so it is a physical change and not a chemical one.

One example of a mixture can be tap water. It has water and other components such as ions like fluoride etc.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the combination of two or more substances without the change in properties defines the material as a mixture.
