Interpretation:
Conversion of carboxylic group to alcohol using NaBH4 as reagent is to be proposed.
Concept introduction:
The carboxylic group in reactant is to be reduced to alcohol. NaBH4 is not used for reduction of carboxylic acid. Retrosynthetic approach suggests that carboxylic group must be converted into such a group which can then be reduced to alcohol. Ester can be the best suitable functional group for conversion here.
