Chapter 21.9, Problem 21.96QAP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Vaccines greatly reduce the risk of infection by working with the body’s nature defenses to safely develop immunity to disease. When germs, such as bacteria or viruses, invade the body, they attack and multiply. This invasion is called an infection. Blood contains red blood cells for carrying oxygen to tissues and organs, and white cells for fighting infection. These white cell consist primarily of β-lymphocytes, T-lymphocytes and macrophages.

Concept introduction:

Vaccines help develop immunity by imitating an infection.

To determine:

What is purpose of a vaccine?
