Concept introduction: Energy is required to complete the functions of our body and that energy is produced from the food that we ingest. Ingested food is converted into energy through various catabolic pathways. The general procedure for the production of energy through ingested food includes four stages.
The four stages in the biochemical energy production process are:
1. Digestion
2. Acetyl group formation
3. Citric acid cycle
4. Electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation
