Introduction:
Pathogens can prevent themselves from antibiotics and phagocytic cells by hiding inside the host cells. These pathogens are called intracellular pathogens. They are of two types, obligate intracellular pathogen and facultative intracellular pathogen. The obligate intracellular pathogen can survive only inside the host cell while the facultative intracellular pathogen can survive both inside and outside the cell.
