Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The two termination steps for the reaction in Your Turn
Concept introduction:
The free radicals are highly reactive. The three different phases in radical chain are initiation, propagation, and termination.
The free radicals have formed in the initiation step. This free radical reacts with stable molecules to create other free radicals. These free radicals create additional free radicals. Most of the propagation steps involve addition of the radical to double bonds or hydrogen abstraction.
The chain termination reaction involves formation stable compound or molecule. The stable compound or molecule is formed from the reaction of two free radicals.
