List the various types of aberrations. What causes them and how can each be reduced?

Explanation

Introduction:

An aberration is a distortion of the images produced by thin lenses or mirrors. In other words, a sharp image is the result of all the rays that come from a source focusing on a single point, instead if the rays coming from a point of time do not focus on a single point then the image that forms it looks blurred. This can occur due to various factors such as the position of the object, lens size, manufacturing defects of the lens or mirror, material, thickness among others.

A type of known aberration is called chromatic aberration which is nothing more than a consequence of the scattering of light. When a beam of white light passes through a lens, violet rays are refracted more than red rays, so the focal length of a lens is greater for red light than for violet. This can be corrected by placing multiple lens systems, depending on the degree of aberration. In particular, a diverging lens of a different material is placed behind the converging lens to correct the anomaly.

Another type of aberration is called spherical aberration, which occurs when light focus that are far from the main axis of a lens or mirror are different from light focus with the same wavelength that pass near the axis, therefore rays that pass through points near the center of the lens forms an image farther from the lens than rays passing through points near the edges...
