Sensible heat is defined as the heat energy exchanged by the body or a thermodynamic system that changes the temperature of the body or the system without any change in pressure and volume. For example, when we heat an object, its temperature rises, hence the amount of heat given to the object is termed as sensible heat.

It is the heat that one can feel. The sensible heat of a body depends on its temperature. However, for the similar change in sensible heat for two different bodies, the change in temperature will be distinct for each one. That means, each matter has distinct proportional relationship between the sensible heat content and the temperature. It is measured in terms of calorie or joule. The mathematical expression for sensible heat is defined as:
