Chapter 28, Problem 31P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The reason for Kinetic stability of Dewar benzene should be given.

Concept introduction:

Isomerization is the process by which one molecule is transformed into another molecule which has exactly the same atoms, but the atoms are rearranged.

Each of two or more compounds with the same formula but a different arrangement of atoms in the molecule and different properties is known as isomers.

If both atomic orbitals of the end groups turn in the same direction in an electrocyclic reaction then it is termed to be conrotatory.

Classify each of the following cycloadditions and explain why orbital symmetry conservation rules allow or forbid each of the following reactions to occur as a concerted process.
In some nucleophilic substitutions under SN1 conditions, complete racemization does not occur and a small excess of one enantiomer is present. For example, treatment of optically pure 1-bromo-1-phenylpropane with water forms 1- phenylpropan-1-ol. (a) Calculate how much of each enantiomer is present using the given optical rotation data. (b) Whichproduct predominates—the product of inversion or the product of retention of conguration? (c) Suggest an explanation for this phenomenon.
Unlike most hydrates, the hydrate of cyclopropanone is stable and can be isolated. Explain why this hydrate is stable.
