The definition of channel geometry.
Answer to Problem 5TE
The channel geometry is the description of channel’s shape.
Explanation of Solution
The channel geometry can be understood as the description of the channel’s shape, area, slope, height, and many other factors that can affect the flow of liquid flowing through it. It greatly influences the amount of discharge that can be carried by a channel and the speed of the stream. Stream discharge is the measurement of volume water that passes a given point with respect to time and is given by the area of the stream multiplied by the speed of the stream.
Consider two-channel having a different shape, one has deeply rounded, and the other is wide but shallow. The water will move at a higher rate in a channel having a rounded shape as compared to others because less water comes in contact with the channel.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the channel geometry is the description of channel’s shape.
