In order to operate the light emitter diode, the p- end of the diode must be connected to the positive terminal of the battery.

The light emitter diode will only work which it is in forward bias with the terminal of the battery.

In order to make the diode light, the p-end of the diode must be connected to the positive terminal of the battery so that it remains in forward bias in which the resistance becomes low and the current with pass without any obstruction.
