Answer to Problem 8STP

Option B

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

A semiconductor whose electrical conductivity is determined by thermally excited electrons and holes is called an intrinsic semiconductor.

As temperature increases, more electrons gain thermal energy to break free from their covalent bonds moving from the valence band to the conduction band.As a result, conductivity increases and hence resistivity decreases.

Conclusion:

On increasing temperature, the conductivity of a silicon semiconductor increases and resistance decreases.
